ON THIS DAY: Flying Finn to the rescue
Watford 0-1 Swansea City
Championship: Tuesday, March 9, 2010
Shefki Kuqi proved the difference at Vicarage Road as the Swans strenthened their place in the Championship's play-off spots.
The Finnish forward struck in the early stages of this contest as he headed home Craig Beattie's fine cross.
Danny Graham and Lloyd Doyley saw their own headers cleared off the line by the visitors' defence, while Dorus de Vries pulled off a superb save to deny Heidur Helguson.
It proved enough to seal victory for the Swans, who moved to within seven points of second-placed West Brom.
The season would end in agony for the Swans, though, as Paulo Sousa's side missed out on the play-offs by a point to Blackpool, who went on to taste Wembley glory. Newcastle United and West Brom booked their Premier League return by finishing first and second.
