On this day: Amat joins Swans
Swansea City completed the signing of defender Jordi Amat on this day in 2013.
The Spanish Under-21 international, who arrived from Espanyol for £2.5 million, became the Swans’ first summer signing on a four-year deal as Michael Laudrup looked to bolster his squad ahead of the club’s Europa League campaign.
Amat made 30 appearances in all competitions during his first season in SA1. Nine of those came during the European adventure, including the full 90 minutes of the memorable 3-0 victory over Valencia at the Mestalla.
He played a further 10 times during the 2014-15 campaign as the Swans recorded their highest Premier League finish of eighth.
The centre-back made an additional 31 appearances in all competitions over the following two seasons, before spending 2017-18 on loan at Real Betis.
