Danielle Broadhurst | We dug deep to earn the win

Women
Danielle Broadhurst v Cardiff Met

Danielle Broadhurst praised the resilience of her side after Swansea City Women began their campaign with a 2-1 win over Cardiff Met.

The Swans fell behind after four minutes, but would be level just seven minutes later when Broadhurst pounced on a mistake from the Met goalkeeper to get her first goal for the club.

Stacey John-Davis then put the Swans ahead just before the break, a lobbed effort from distance beating the goalkeeper to earn an opening day win for the visitors

Broadhurst was delighted to get her first goal for the club, but was even happier to see her side pick up the win after responding to an early setback.

“I’m over the moon to get the goal, but I’m happier to come away with three points,” said Broadhurst.

“It’s a great start to the season, I thought we dug in at the end of the game to earn the three points. We had more possession and we were on top of the game, we went behind but we didn’t give in.

“We got the goal back quite quickly and then obviously got one right before half-time. Towards the end of the game it was tough, but we dug in and got the win."

Broadhurst has quickly settled into life at Swansea after joining from Barry Town United, and she is eagerly looking forward to the chance to play at the Swansea.com Stadium against her former club this coming Sunday.

“I’m loving life at Swansea, the players and the staff have all been amazing and we are all working hard," she added.

“I’m really looking forward to playing at the stadium, hopefully we can keep this rolling and pick up another three points.

“I’ll always be looking to get myself onto the scoresheet, but the main objective will always be to come away with three more points.”
