Curtis to retire from coaching role

Swansea City legend Alan Curtis has announced he will retire from first-team coaching at the end of the season, but will be named Honorary Club President after hanging up his boots.

Curtis, simply known as “Legend” around the club, has given over 40 years of service to the Swans but will call time on his involvement on the footballing side at the end of the campaign.

“After over 40 years serving the club, I felt this was the right time to step back from day-to-day involvement,” said Curtis.

“After considering this for some time, the end of the season was the correct time for me to finish my coaching career.

“I am now looking forward to seeing how this young team progresses under Graham while serving my new role as Honorary Club President.

Celebrating his 65th birthday today, Curtis is currently part of Graham Potter’s backroom staff after returning to the first-team fold last summer.

Aside from representing the Swans during three separate spells as a player in which he scored 110 goals in over 400 appearances, Curtis has also held roles as a community officer, youth coach, first-team coach, assistant manager, caretaker manager, match day host, head of youth development and, prior to his current role, was the club’s first loan player manager.

After the final Championship game of the season at Blackburn Rovers, Curtis will then take up the Honorary Club President position last held by Gwilym Joseph MBE, who sadly passed away in August 2017.

The role will also see Curtis involved in match day hospitality, official club duties and fulfilling media commitments.
