Clucas hails Carvalhal impact

Sam Clucas has hailed the impact of new boss Carlos Carvalhal after his first two matches in charge of Swansea City.

The Swans began life under Carvalhal with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Watford last weekend, before putting up a spirited display in their 2-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur at the Liberty on Tuesday.

And Clucas believes the new man at the top has brought a fresh sense of optimism to the club as they look to move away from the bottom of the Premier League.

And the midfielder has urged his team-mates to build on their momentum going into Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Wolves, as well as the top-flight showdown with Newcastle United the following weekend.

“It is refreshing every time a new manager comes in because you get new ideas,” said Clucas, who has impressed since Carvalhal took charge. 

“He’s very enthusiastic and meticulous on the opposition and I think that has paid off over the past couple of matches.

“We knew Spurs were going to have a lot of possession, so the manager set us up to sit behind the ball and make it difficult for them. I think we did that because you didn’t see them carving us open.

“We had some luck at Watford which was important and hopefully we can build on that. We’ve got some important games coming up and they’re all big ones for us now because, whoever the opposition is, we need to be getting points on the board.”
