Clement: We will get better and better
Paul Clement is convinced his Swansea City side are close to turning their form around ahead of Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield Town.
The Swans have dropped into the Premier League’s bottom three after back-to-back defeats by Watford and West Ham.
But Clement reckons his new-look team are going to get stronger as the season goes on.
“We feel optimistic that our form is going to change,” said the Swans manager.
“We are all in agreement that we need to start playing better, particularly at home.
“But I also think the fact that the margin of the losses we have had has been small is a positive sign.
“We haven’t played particularly well but the games have been very, very tight.
“If we can turn the corner in terms of the way we are performing, I am sure the results will follow. That is the feeling among the technical staff and also the players.
“If we were getting hammered in games it would be different. But the scorelines have been tight and we know we can play a lot better.
“When we do that, there’s no doubt in my mind that we will get better results.”
A number of new faces are still getting used to life with the Swans, while a host of players – including key men in Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente – left the Liberty over the summer.
And Clement believes his side will become more formidable opponents in the months ahead.
“This is a team that’s going to get better and better as the season goes on,” he added.
“We had more changes in the summer than I envisaged at the end of last season.
“We have brought in some players, like Renato (Sanches) and Wilfried (Bony), who did not play so regularly last season.
“Then we have four or five other new players. It’s going to take a bit of time to integrate them all and I expect an improvement in the team and in our performances as we go on.
“I am confident that we will be better in the second half of the season than the first, but it’s still important to pick up points now because we don’t want another situation like last year when we only had 12 points at the halfway stage.”
