Swansea City’s first-team squad attended the annual Christmas Party at the Swansea.com Stadium, hosted by Swans supporter and local businessman Phil Lake.

The party is an invite-only event for children across the city who have had a difficult time throughout the year, as well as those who are spending time in hospital over the Christmas period.

It includes food, children’s dance parties and a chance to meet the Swans squad, who signed autographs, posed for selfies and handed out small toys as a donation from the club.

"It’s really important to give back. Football isn’t just for the people on the pitch. Christmas is a time for everyone, and it’s a happy time, so I’m pleased we can make these young people happy," said Swans defender Josh Key.

"Some of the people here might not have what we have, so to see smiles on their faces, or to see them laugh when you sign an autograph, it’s nice that we can make a little impact on their lives."

The Christmas party has been taking place every year for nearly two decades and for some of the invitees will be the highlight of the year.

Lake, who works with the stadium events team to stage the event, added: “We’ve taken over the whole floor, and we’ve had about 300 children here this year.

"We’ve been doing this a long time, and this is probably as good as it’s ever been.

"These kids deserve a treat – a lot of them have had a tough year – and it’s nice to put some smiles on faces.

"I need to thank the club and the players for helping us put this on again, because it’s a great night. They players are great, they’ve been so nice and they are a credit to Swansea.”
