Swansea City Women’s interim head coach Chris Church was delighted with their response as they returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win over Genero Adran Premier champions Cardiff City.

After a disappointing result in midweek that the saw the Swans beaten 4-0 by Cardiff as their Genero Adran Premier title hopes were ended, the home side got themselves ahead in the first half at Llandarcy through Katy Hosford’s penalty.

Emily Thomas would make it 2-0 after the break to seal the three points, latching onto a great ball from Robyn Pinder before coolly slotting home.

Church was delighted to have returned to winning way, and praised the squad’s mentality to bounce back after their setback.

“The bounce back from the team was massive,” said Church.

“We really needed that, I asked the players at the start of the game to put Wednesday to bed and they did that.

“It was a tough night at the office for everyone last time out, but it was an incredible response from everyone, it was a brilliant shift from everyone involved.

“The mentality of the side keeps amazing me, they’ve had to dig deep again, when they are down and things haven’t gone their way they always find a way and they bounce back.

“You have to give the youngsters a chance, Rhian [Williams] has come in and she has done really well in two huge games in the south Wales derby.

“Everyone who we have had to call on has given us everything, we are really pleased with all of the players and they have worked incredibly hard.

“Hopefully this will really spur on the team for the last two league games, before heading into that Adran Trophy final with Cardiff.”
