Chris Church | There’s no better feeling than a late winner
Swansea City Women’s interim coach Chris Church praised his sides relentless efforts after Robyn Pinder’s 97th-minute winner secured three points away at The New Saints Women.
Stacey John-Davis put the Swans ahead in the second half, tapping home her first goal of the season to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Ella Hartley levelled for the hosts with six minutes of regular time to go, her stunning 25-yard strike flying in off the underside of the bar.
But the Swans would regain their lead let on, Pinder latching onto a ball from Alicia Powe before sliding home to earn a dramatic win for her side.
Church was delighted with the tenacity Swansea showed, and felt the victory demonstrated the importance of the squad’s depth.
“Credit to the players again for going until the end,” said Church.
“I thought we controlled the football really well, in the second half particularly, and I thought we were unrelenting.
“The back four were absolute quality and to get that late winner to top it off, you can’t get any better than that.
“You can see from the players that did come on the pitch that they can make a difference, it’s not just the 11 that start.
“You can see smiles on the faces all around the dressing room, you could see what it meant to everyone at the end.
“We’ve all rallied round each other and we’ve got the results that we need, but that doesn’t stop here, we have to go again.
“At the end of the season we want to be fighting for that championship and this is a massive three points for us, hopefully it keeps that run of form going and we’ll see where that can take us.
“We know that it will be a different kind of football next week against Aberystwyth, we know they will set up in a particular way, it’s another chance to see what we can do.”
