Chris Church | This team just keeps getting better
Interim head coach Chris Church believes Swansea City Women are going from strength to strength after watching their 5-1 Genero Adran Trophy semi-final win over The New Saints Women.
Emily Thomas headed the Swans ahead just six minutes in as she connected well with Chloe Chivers’ cross, before Sammy Wynne’s stunning 25-yard strike made it 2-0 nine minutes later.
Stacey John-Davis made it three just before the break, and her quickfire second-half double complete her hat-trick.
Chloe Shirley pulled one back for the hosts late on, but it would only be a consolation as the Swans reached a first Adran Trophy final since 2021.
Church was delighted with his side’s performance and feels they are improving week on week.
“I’m over the moon, particularly with our performance,” said Church.
“We changed it up a little bit with the squad, but the players showed they can compete no matter what changes are put in place and that’s credit to them.
“It settles the team really well when you get that early goal and then hold onto the ball well.
“What was good was that we went up and quickly got the second, that really settled us so it’s a great performance all round.
“This team just keeps getting better, be it their finishing, their build-up play and out-of-possession work. You can see that with the quality of goals we are scoring.
“Sammy [Wynne]’s goal was an excellent finish and the free-kick from Stacey [John-Davis] was probably one of the best goals we’ve scored this season.
“We want the whole squad chomping at the bit to play and making sure we have competition for places, because if you don’t have that you start resting on your laurels.
“We’ve only increased our momentum, it’s a statement win and we are on a bit of a roll now, long may it continue.
“You need that good atmosphere in the changing room, everyone pulling for each other even when they aren’t in the starting 11.”
