Chris Church | The players showed resilience
Swansea City Women’s interim head coach Chris Church praised the fighting spirit of his players after their 2-1 win at Pontypridd United Women.
A first-half own goal gave the Swans the lead, before Katy Hosford doubled the advantage just after the break.
Ffion Simmonds pulled a goal back when she headed home for the hosts, but the Swans claimed the three points to keep up the pressure at the top of the Genero Adran Premier table.
Church felt that his side had relinquished control of the contest in the second half, but was happy with the spirit they showed to grind out the result.
“It’s a hard fought three points, we’re really happy with the first half, but I think in the second half we dropped off,” said Church.
“Credit to our players, they showed that resilience that gets you through games sometimes, and we got three points.
“Sometimes it is about grinding out results in different ways, and this was just about getting that result.
“We have to keep this form going, we need to make sure we don’t settle and we don’t rest, we have to keep pushing and the players know that as a group.
“It was really wet in the second half, that along with the wind made conditions really difficult, we spoke about it before the game but it definitely did have an impact.
“We have a run of home games now and we want to make Llandarcy a fortress, it has been for a long time, and we want to make sure no-one looks forward to having to travel to face us.”
