Chris Church | I'm disappointed but we gave everything
Swansea City Women’s interim head coach Chris Church admitted there was disappointment after seeing their Genero Adran Premier title hopes ended by a 4-0 defeat to Cardiff City, but is confident his side will bounce back.
First-half goals from Eliza Collie and Rhianne Oakley gave the Swans a mountain to climb, and the Bluebirds pressed home their advantage in the second half as Oakley extended their advantage before Molly Kehoe rounded off the scoring.
The Swans had been stretched by injuries after a determined pursuit of their hosts in pursuit of the title, and the defeat saw Cardiff secure the top-flight crown.
“It is a difficult one to take,” said Church.
“I think we are all gutted with the result. In the second half we came out of the traps, we hit the crossbar and the post, and they hit us on the break, but that’s football and that happens.
“I’m not disappointed with the players, I’m obviously disappointed with the result, but the players gave everything.
“We obviously had injuries, but I trust the players that came in for us, they wouldn’t be in the squad if I didn’t.
“We had players out, but that is football and it’s something we have to be able to deal with.
“It’s a short period of reflection now, we will look back on one or two things and I know the players have the character to bounce right back.”
