Swansea City Women’s interim head coach Chris Church felt the performance in their 4-0 win at Barry Town United represented the perfect finish to 2023.

Stacey John-Davis had put Swans ahead early, calmly finishing after a great ball forward from Steph Turner.

Just a minute later John-Davis caused the Barry defence trouble yet again, forcing Nia Davies to put the ball into her own net.

Katy Hosford made it 3-0 with 10 minutes to go after Sammy Wynne slid the forward through on goal, before Hosford turned provider as she set Robyn Pinder up to tap home the Swans fourth.

Church was pleased to see the cutting edge on show against a resilient Barry side, and felt Swansea had made a statement heading into the winter break in the Genero Adran Premier.

“It was a great performance from start to finish, we really controlled the game in all aspects,” said Church.

“We scored at the right times which settled us, Barry made it hard to break them down for large chunks of the game, but we kept going and got two goals towards the end.

“This form is huge for us, we’ve spoken about making sure that we are in a good position heading into the new year, so this was an important win.

“It was imperative that we got a result, especially with Cardiff looking to pull away from teams at the top. We had to make a statement and get those three points and I’m really pleased with the manner in which we did it.

“It is always hard against teams that try to make it difficult for you going forward, you need to find the right spaces and the right moments, and I thought we did that well.

“We know 2024 will be massive for this team, we’ve spoken a lot about wanting to be in the mix in all competitions, and we have got that heading into the new year.”
