Chloe Chivers | There is no better feeling than scoring in a derby win
Swansea City Women’s forward Chloe Chivers savoured the feeling of scoring a south Wales derby stunner, and hopes the 2-0 victory over Cardiff City can give her side vital confidence heading into the decisive phase of the Genero Adran Premier season.
Chivers opened the scoring for the Swans at Cardiff International Sports Stadium with a stunning 35-yard strike, ensuring the visitors got a deserved reward for their first-half dominance.
The Bluebirds were improved in the second half and piled on the pressure as they sought to extend their 35-match unbeaten run in the Welsh top-flight, but a resilient performance from the Swans kept them out before Katy Hosford added a second with 10 minutes to go.
The win saw the Swans reduce the gap between the leaders and themselves to five points as they brought phase one of the league season to an end.
Chivers was delighted with the win, but knows her side have to keep working hard to try and continue to close the gap in the title race.
“I’m over the moon, we fully deserved that win, we worked so hard from the first minute to the final whistle,” said Chivers.
“It’s an amazing feeling for us, we’ve been working hard over the last couple of games, and we fully deserved a result like that.
“There is no better feeling than scoring in a derby, especially when you are in the opposition's backyard, and I’m really happy to be on the scoresheet.
“I just saw the opportunity to hit it and thankfully it’s gone in, so I’m buzzing with it.
“It gives us a lot of confidence, at half-time we went in and we were really happy with the first half and how we played, so now it’s about keeping this run going.
“We will face Cardiff again in phase two, so we just have to keep working hard and keep this going.
“Five points still feels like a lot, but we’ve got to keep working to reduce that gap, we just have to go out there and keep this mentality going.”
