Chloe Chivers | Cup win a platform to build on
Swansea City Women’s forward Chloe Chivers was pleased with the improvements in her side's performance after they advanced to the second round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup, and feels victory over Cardiff Met gives them a platform to build on.
Chivers netted her first goal since the opening game of the season to draw the Swans level with 15 minutes to go in the first-round tie, with the visitors having fallen behind to a first-half goal from Faith Mulenga.
The Swans continued to push for a winner late on and found it as Chivers’ free-kick forced defender Sophie Davidson to put the ball in her own net with two minutes to go.
The forward was delighted to return to the scoresheet and has her sights set on challenging for silverware in the cup, and she feels the manner of the display at the Cyncoed Campus gives plenty of positives to take forward.
“We’re all very happy to have bounced back from that loss in the league to Cardiff Met a couple of weeks ago,” said Chivers.
“I thought we did very well and to get a goal was even better, it was a long time coming for me and it was nice to get on the scoresheet.
“I think the performance was massively improved, we knew what we wanted to do, there were still problems to sort out on the pitch, but we got each other through it, stayed positive and I think we deserved it. I think we can take a lot from that moving forward.
“We don’t want to speak too soon in terms of the cup, anything can happen in a cup tie as we’ve seen, but we will stay positive and just focus on the next game in front of us now.
“I think we’ve really shown that we’ve bounced back from a tough couple of weeks, to knock out one of the big dogs is a good feeling and hopefully we can go all the way.”
