Charlie Patino | Scoring is bittersweet because we wanted three points
Charlie Patino described his late equaliser against Huddersfield Town as "bittersweet" as Swansea City were left ruing missed opportunities against the Terriers.
The Arsenal-loanee was introduced in the 72nd minute with the Swans trailing to a Ben Cabango own goal.
Despite boasting nearly 80 per cent possession and registering 22 shots, it took until the fourth minute of added time for the Swans to find the leveller.
It was Patino who showed real composure to slot the ball beyond Chris Maxwell from the edge of the area and secure a point, but it was not a moment the midfielder was able to savour as the Swans were left disappointed not to have taken all three points.
“I’m pleased to have the goal but at the end of the day it’s about the team, so getting a point when we wanted three is not ideal,” he said.
"I want to keep improving my numbers and contributing to the team.
"I won the ball back, played a little one-two with Pato and managed to slot it passed their goalie.
“But it’s a bittersweet moment really because with the amount of possession and the chances we had, we felt we should have scored and won the game.
“Huddersfield are always a tough team to play against. They sit in a 5-4-1 and it’s tough to break them down, you have to find intricate pockets and passes.
“There were times we broke them down and created chances and, on another occasion, they go in the back of the net. But they didn't and we are disappointed."
Patino has been introduced from the bench in recent games following his suspension for a harsh red card against Sunderland.
And the 20-year-old says he will keep his head down and keep working hard to be ready whenever he is called upon.
“The only thing I can control is how I go about things in training,” he said.
“I need to make sure that I’m working hard every day, doing my extras on and off the pitch. I can only control my controllables, which is a term I like to use.
"It's down to me to work hard to improve and perform whenever I am called upon."
