Goalkeeper Charlie Haynes was proud to make her first start for Swansea City Women in their 4-0 win over Cardiff Met Women, as the summer signing returned from injury.

Haynes joined the Swans during the off-season, but was sidelined for the first five games of the season after suffering a fractured elbow.

The shot stopper made her competitive debut for the Swans as a second-half substitute in the 11-0 win over Talycopa AFC Women in the Bute Energy Welsh Cup, and was then selected to start in the Genero Adran Premier fixture against Met, where she kept a clean sheet.

“It means everything to me to get that first start,” said Haynes

“It couldn’t have gone any better for us, as a team we played really well and to keep a clean sheet is something I’m proud of.

“I’ve been waiting for this day for months, ever since I first joined I’ve been thinking about it.

“It’s been a long time coming, but it couldn’t have been a better start for us, getting three points and getting that clean sheet.”

During her spell on the sidelines, Haynes admits she found it difficult watching on as her new side's campaign got underway, but feels she has come back stronger despite the setback.

“I was out for about nine weeks, but I’m feeling better now than I was before,” explained Haynes.

“The recovery process was hard, having to watch the girls play on the sideline was difficult.

“But it’s just really good to be back out there playing and starting games.

“You don’t realise how much you take it for granted until you are in the position where you can’t play.

“I’m just really looking forward to the rest of the season now, and I hope I can build on this.”
