Carl Rushworth targets strong end to the season
Goalkeeper Carl Rushworth is targeting a strong end to the season with Swansea City as he eyes the upcoming derby clashes with Bristol City and Cardiff City.
The Brighton & Hove Albion loanee has been one of the Championship’s top performing goalkeepers this season, following on from a standout campaign for Lincoln City in League One last term.
Rushworth has played every league minute in 2023-24, and his focus is on continuing his development across the final 10 matches of the campaign and continuing Swansea's improving form under Luke Williams.
“My focus is to finish the season strong, and get as many points as we can,” he said.
“Marge [head of goalkeeping Martyn Margetson] has been top with me. Building experience and working under him has been top, I’ve really enjoyed it.
“When we train, we train exactly how we play. Everything replicates onto the pitch.
“When I came here, one of things I wanted to do was play every game.
“The lads helped me fit in straight away, and I’ve just been taking it one step at a time, playing games in League Two, then League One and now in the Championship.”
The Swans travel to Ashton Gate on the weekend before hosting Cardiff City six days later, and Rushworth says they are matches the whole squad are looking forward to it.
“The lads are up for these two games,” he added.
“The lads have been looking towards that game and I think it’s good that we’ve for a bit of momentum to take into them.
“All the lads are psyched up and we’re really looking forward to it.”
