Boss: A positive day for everyone
Graham Potter is looking forward to seeing Connor Roberts continue his rise at Swansea City after the defender signed a new contract.
The Welsh international has put pen to paper on a new deal which ties him to the Swans until the summer of 2022.
Roberts, who came through the club’s academy system, is the fourth member of Potter’s squad to agree fresh terms in recent weeks following Joe Rodon, Jay Fulton and Matt Grimes.
And Potter believes there is plenty more to come from the 23-year-old, who has established himself as a first-team regular this term.
“We are delighted with how Connor has performed this season,” said the Swans boss.
“He’s been very consistent in his performances but there is a lot more to come from him.
“He sees this club as the place to continue his development and we look forward to seeing him grow.”
Local lad Roberts, who hails from Crynant, has been a key figure in Potter’s plans this season and has featured on the right side of midfield as well as his preferred position of right-back.
He has played 17 times for the Swans, along with scoring his first goals for the club in victories over QPR and Blackburn.
His performances at club level have also attracted the attention of national boss Ryan Giggs, with the Manchester United legend handing Roberts his Wales debut in the China Cup clash with Uruguay in March.
And Potter believes Roberts’ decision to continue his development in SA1 is great news for everyone connected with the Swans.
“He’s been at the club for a long time, so he knows what the club is all about,” Potter added.
“It’s great for the supporters to see a homegrown player coming through. Fans love to see a local lad doing well for their club.
“It’s great news for the academy and its players. It proves they are doing a lot of good work, while this shows there is a pathway to the first team from the academy.
“It’s a positive day for everyone.”
