Bony backed to go on a run

Lukasz Fabianski reckons Wilfried Bony could be about to embark on a goalscoring streak after his sweet strike at Stoke last weekend.

Bony netted the first goal of his second stint as a Swan thanks to a precise volley which flew past Potters keeper Jack Butland.

The Ivorian’s goal came in his fifth Premier League start since returning to the Liberty, and could easily have been his second in a week after his effort against Bournemouth was controversially ruled out.

And Fabianski hopes that having got off the mark at Stoke, Bony will soon be on the scoresheet again.

“From what I heard, Wilf is that kind of striker whose confidence will grow after a goal,” the Swans keeper said.

“He is a really massive help for the team with the job that he does up front.

“He has been an important player since he came back from injury and hopefully he will grow and grow as a player in the next few games.”

In the absence of Federico Fernandez – and with club skipper Angel Rangel on the bench – Bony has skippered the Swans in their last three matches.

Having had limited game-time for a couple of seasons, Bony clocked up 90 minutes three times in a week.

And all the signs are that a player who established himself as one of the top forwards in the Premier League during his first spell with the Swans is on his way back to his best.

Nevertheless, Fabianski acknowledges that other players must do their bit going forward when Paul Clement’s men take on West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

“Wilf gives the team someone to play off,” Fabianski added.

“He has stepped up, but we have to do it as a team. Everyone has a part to play.”
