Blaenhonddan Primary School recently represented Swansea City AFC Foundation in the EFL Utilita Kids Cup southern finals at Southampton’s Staplewood training ground.

The Neath school qualified for the finals after winning the local Swansea heat at Landore training ground, earning the chance to represent the Swans at the tournament.

The Swans faced off in group games against representatives from Cardiff City, Southampton, Queens Park Rangers and Plymouth Argyle, as well as in play-off games against Bristol City and Birmingham City.

Swansea City AFC Foundation’s sports and education coordinator Dan Garnett was delighted that the young students had the opportunity to represent the Swans, and was proud of their efforts.

“Blaenhonddan are one of our partner schools, they’ve worked really hard to get to the finals and really deserved the chance to represent Swansea City and play against these teams,” said Garnett.

“They’ve had a really good day out, they’ve enjoyed coming to these facilities and playing against teams from across the Championship.

“It’s a massive achievement for them just getting here, bringing them here helps them become familiar with each other on the pitch and, as they move on into the older football age groups, it will be really beneficial for their development.”

Blaenhonddan teacher Craig Jones was delighted for his students to be a part of the tournament, and proud to see them pull on the Swansea City shirt.

“It’s been a really good day and the kids have all enjoyed themselves,” said Jones.

“It was a really good quality of opposition, and it was lovely for to get them out to see these amazing facilities.

“You can see the jump up from the regional round to this, but the boys have held their own and competed.

“We are a really tight-knit school, it’s great to see the togetherness of the boys, they will remember this forever and the Swansea shirts with their names on the back is a class touch.”
