Ben Lloyd | We stuck to our game plan
Ben Lloyd says Swansea City Under-21s executed their game plan perfectly as they beat Brighton and Hove Albion 3-1 in the Premier League Cup on Saturday.
The Swans opened the scoring when Kristian Fletcher struck from the edge of the area with half-hour played, giving the hosts the advantage going into the break.
The Seagulls equalised through Mark O’Mahony not long after the restart, but the Swans found the net twice within five minutes in the closing stages through an own goal, and a wonderful solo effort from Fletcher after Lloyd teed the American up from the left.
And Lloyd insists they didn't let the stature of the opponents get to them, and praised the performance from his teammates.
"It was a great performance from the boys. We couldn't have asked for any more and we followed the game plan," he said.
"Apart from one mistake with the goal, I don't think they had a look in the game. We stamped our authority on the game, and I couldn't have asked for any more from the boys, they were brilliant.
"I think it shows character that we can put in these performances against teams that are above us or of senior level, and in the Welsh Cup as well.
"Brighton are playing in Europe this season, and we could have let that get the better of us, but we didn't. To win is great, but to put in a good performance like that is even better."
