Ben Cabango | We need to keep our focus
Ben Cabango was pleased to be back on the pitch despite the 3-1 defeat at Leicester City, but admits Swansea City need to retain their focus in games to cut out costly lapses in both boxes.
The centre-back returned from an ankle injury which had kept him sidelined for four weeks, and he played a part in the Swans’ consolation goal in injury time as his header kept a well-worked corner routine alive before Joe Allen poked the loose ball in from close range.
However, the destination of the three points had already been decided with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall opening the scoring inside three minutes before Stephy Mavididi converted from the spot in the second half and Yunus Akgun also found the net.
However, between the first and second goals, the Swans had put in a strong performance against the league leaders and had opportunities to get on level terms.
“It’s good to be back on the pitch,” said Cabango.
“It’s been three or four weeks now so it’s good to be back out there.
“I thought we did alright in bits, but in the moments where they scored it was mistakes from us. It’s frustrating.
“I felt at 1-0 we were still in the game, I felt like we’d get some chances, but mistakes killed us in the end.
“I thought we were on top at the start of the second half, and then the mistakes have killed our momentum, and it’s just down to concentration.
“We need to stay focused at all times, particularly when we’re on top. We need to make sure we’re always on the little things and the key details."
The match presented Cabango with his first minutes since the arrival of the new head coach Luke Williams.
It’s been a frustrating period for the 23-year-old, but he’s looking forward to fully getting down to work under the Swans’ boss.
“When a new manager comes in, you want to be out training and showing what you can do,” he added.
“Obviously I know him from before, so it’s not too bad, but it’s about getting your head down and working hard.
“We’re working hard every day, learning new things. I think it’ll take a bit of time to adjust, but we’ll get there.”
