Ben Cabango | South Wales derby is a game we look forward to as players
Defender Ben Cabango says South Wales derbies are always games to look forward to as Swansea City prepare to face their old foes at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday.
The centre-back was on the score sheet the last time the Swans made the trip to the Cardiff City stadium, scoring the second goal in a 4-0 victory as the Swans became the first to complete a league double in the history of the fixture.
Saturday will mark the second south Wales derby of the 2022-23 season with the Swans earning a 2-0 win against the Bluebirds back in October.
Ollie Cooper and Michael Obafemi scored the goals that day after the visitors went down to 10 men in the seventh minute when Callum Robinson was dismissed for throwing the ball into the face of Cabango.
The Wales international - who won his sixth cap against Latvia in midweek - understands what the fixture means to the fans as well and everyone connected with Swansea City.
Should he play on Saturday, it will be his fourth involvement in the derby, while he has watched a further two from the dugout as an unused substitute.
“We always can’t wait for [the Cardiff City match],” he said.
“It’s always a massive game for us as players and fans. We’ll give it our all, look to perform to the best of our abilities and hopefully we get the three points.
“Performances like the one against Bristol City with the victory and the clean sheet gives us so much confidence and it is important we build on that.
“Everyone will have been working hard over the break and we will be looking to be ready for the Cardiff game.”
