Ben Cabango | This shows we have to be on the front foot from the off

Captain Ben Cabango believes if Swansea City learn the lessons of defeat at Millwall then it will make them stronger heading into next season.

The Swans suffered a 1-0 defeat against the play-off chasing Lions at The Den, George Saville scoring the only goal of the game during an opening half where the visitors struggled to settle and the hosts had the better of the contest.

But it was a very different story in the second half, with the Swans pressing aggressively and capitalising quickly in transition.

They had numerous chances to level, with Jisung Eom being denied by Millwall keeper George Evans, who also saved a powerful Zan Vitponik header and parried a drive from Ronald.

Vipotnik also nodded another chance narrowly wide, and miscued a volley after doing well to retreat to control a Ronald cross.

Ultimately they could not find an equaliser as their five-match winning streak came to an end, but Cabango says the nature of the second-half performance underlined the level the Swans need to be starting games with if they want to progress.

“I think in the first half we were not at our best, we made it hard for ourselves,” said the defender.

“In the second half we found that tempo, we created chances and we probably should have got something from the game.

“I think we can learn a lot from this, because it shows how important it is to be on the front foot from the off.

“In this run, we have been at our best when we have done that. We have taken control of games from the off.

“I think if we can take that onboard, looking forward to next season, then it can help improve us.”

The skipper also thanked the Jack Army for their support over the course of a season where they have racked up nearly 10,000 miles in away trips.

“They were great, they were so loud,” he said.

“They were really behind us. They have been all season but, coming off five wins, I am sure they are buzzing and they were pushing us on in the second half.

“We want ed to do it for them, we are disappointed we couldn’t, but I hope they felt that was a good performance.”
