Ben Cabango raring to go after injury return
Ben Cabango is raring to go for the new season after his return from injury for Swansea City Under-21s put him in Russell Martin's selection plans for this weekend's Championship opener at Rotherham.
The Wales defender suffered ankle ligament damage during the draw with Bournemouth at the Swansea.com Stadium back in April, but Cabango made his return to the field after playing 60 minutes as the young Swans won 4-2 against Brentford B at the Vale Resort on Saturday.
His successful outing saw head coach Martin confirm he is planning on having Cabango in his travelling party for the opening-day clash against the Millers.
And the 22-year-old was feeling good after getting some valuable game time under his belt.
“It was my aim to just make sure that I get some minutes in this game to make sure that I’m ready for the game on Saturday,” said Cabango.
“It’s the first league game and I want to make sure I’m in contention to play that one.
“It’s a really good feeling to be back out on the field, it’s been a long way back but I’ve been pushing myself and it feels good to be back out there and get rid of all the cobwebs.
“I think there were parts of how I played that showed I had a few cobwebs to blow off, but the main thing was getting the minutes and I know everything is going to come together.
“I’ve been working hard to get to this stage, but the hard work doesn’t stop now, I’ve just got to kick on again.
“I felt like I could have played 90 minutes, to be honest, but obviously there is a process with it to just start with 60 minutes and then push on to the 90, but it was a good start.
“It has been a difficult period, especially being in all through the summer, not really having that much of a break. I have been working hard to get myself to where I am now.
“But the hard work doesn’t stop now, I’ve got to really push on."
