Ben Cabango | Derbies are great occasions, but we have to focus
Ben Cabango wants Swansea City to embrace the south Wales derby occasion when they host Cardiff City on Saturday (12.30pm).
The Swans face the Bluebirds in the latest edition of the 112-year rivalry looking to hit back after suffering defeat in the meeting between the sides earlier in the season.
The home side have enjoyed the better of much of the recent derby history, with Cabango playing a key part in the last two Swansea wins in Cardiff courtesy of a pair of goals that secured the first league doubles the fixture has seen.
The Wales international – who has been included in Rob Page’s squad for the Euro 2024 play-offs – knows history will go out the window when kick-off time arrives.
But he wants the Swans to make sure their focus is right.
“There is something special about derby days, there is no doubt,” he said.
“You can feel the buzz around the city and around the club, and people leave you in no doubt as to what it means to them.
“You know you have an opportunity to do something special for the supporters, and to do that we have to perform on the pitch.
“They are brilliant occasions to be involved in, but as players we have to make sure we are focused on what we need to do and make sure we perform.”
