BEN CABANGO COMMITS FUTURE TO SWANSEA CITY WITH NEW CONTRACT UNTIL 2028
Swansea City AFC is delighted to announce that defender and Wales international Ben Cabango has signed a new contract, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2028.
The 24-year-old Wales international’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of the season, but his new terms extend his stay with the Swans, which stretches back to when he first joined the club at 14 years old.
Ben has made 206 appearances for the Swans, and has skippered the club at every level he has played at on his journey through the academy ranks to the senior team.
He’s also the only current player to have scored in the Champions League while with the Swans, after bagging in the competition during his loan spell with The New Saints in the 2018-19 season.
Cabango, who has been a pivotal figure this season and played in every game, expressed his excitement about the new contract and the club's future.
"I'm really happy to have signed a new contract with Swansea City. We've been talking about it for a while and I think since Andy's taken over it’s been really positive. I've seen the change obviously with the gaffer as well. It's all been more positive and everything is going in the right direction," said Cabango.
"I've been here for a long time, and I'm so happy and comfortable. I really want to see Swansea City as a club progress.
"Andy arranged a presentation with all the staff; the chef, the assistant coaches, the kit men, Grimesy was in it, and obviously the gaffer.
That was a big thing because they were all telling me how much they want me to be here, and what the club's going to be looking like in the future. It all sounded really good to me, and I gained a lot out of it. I just want to get better and better.
"The path that the club is on at the moment, we will be there or there about soon. It's going to take time and we're starting to see the results and hopefully we can keep building.
“With Wales, I've started the last game which is a real positive for me and I just need to focus on Swansea and I think I'll get more chances to play for Wales in the future.
"The fans mean a lot to me, obviously. I've been here since I was young now and they've treated me like one of their own. It means a lot to hear my song getting sung every game in the corner. It makes me smile every time when I'm playing so yeah, it means a lot to me.
"If I've made a few Christmases, I'm more than happy with that. Merry Christmas."
Swansea City AFC Chairman, Andy Coleman, who played a pivotal role in securing the deal, shared his thoughts on the new contract:
"We are overjoyed to have Ben commit his future to Swansea City. His dedication and talent are invaluable to our team, and this new contract is a testament to our ambition and our bright future.
"We made a presentation as part of the negotiations to Ben so he knew exactly how important he was to us, and this is a really exciting early Christmas present for our fans.
"We look forward to many more successful years with him."
