Azeem Abdulai delighted to get first minutes under his belt on injury return
Azeem Abdulai was thrilled to get his first minutes under his belt following a hamstring injury, and has his sights set on being part of Swansea City’s Championship run-in.
The Scotland youth international played 60 minutes in the under-21s' 2-2 draw against Cardiff City on Monday evening.
The 20-year-old Scot has made six senior appearances this season and had been due to start in September's Championship fixture against Bristol City, only to suffer a hamstring injury which sidelined him for three months.
Abdulai returned to the pitch in the Swans' FA Cup third-round tie against Morecambe in the new year, but suffered another hamstring problem and has been sidelined since.
But he was recently named in Luke Williams' squad for the last two away games against Watford and Bristol City respectively, and he was glad to get back out on the pitch earlier this week.
"It was a great feeling to get back out there, and to get 60 minutes felt good for the system," said Abdulai.
"It's something I've been working hard towards for the last few weeks, hopefully this is the start of getting more game time and building my fitness back up.
"I have to thank the coaching staff and the medical staff who have helped me, as it's been a long and hard process not being able to play.
"I got to play with some familiar faces which is always a bonus, we were gutted about the result on Monday. It's never good to concede a late equaliser, but I thought the boys played well and I know it meant a lot to the Swansea boys.
"I would love to be involved in the south Wales derby on Saturday, I feel fully fit and it would be great to experience that kind of atmosphere."
