Away guide | Rotherham United
Swansea City travel to the AESSEAL New York Stadium for their opening match for the 2022-23 Championship campaign against newly-promoted Rotherham United.
Here is an away guide for any Jacks planning to make the journey to south Yorkshire.
Please note: this match is all ticket meaning tickets will not be available for purchase on the day.
Rotherham United v Swansea City
Date: Saturday, July 30 (kick-off 3pm)
Address: AESSEAL New York Stadium, New York Way, Rotherham, S60 1AH
Distance from the Swansea.com Stadium: 164 miles (as the crow flies)
Seating allocation
The Swans have been given a seating allocation of 1,859 in the Mears South Stand (behind the goal). The view is generally very good from anywhere in the purpose-built, 12,000 seater stadium, which is only 10 years old.
Food and drink can be purchased from the concourse underneath the stand. This is also where supporters will find the toilets.
Please note that tickets will not be available to purchase on the day - supporters who do not have a ticket are advised not to travel.
Before the match
Turnstiles at the stadium open 90 minutes before kick-off, but there are activities available at the Rotherham United Community Sports Trust Goal Zone Centre from 1pm.
This is available to both home and away supporters, but you must have a valid match ticket to enter. There is pre-match entertainment provided and plenty for young supporters to do.
This activation has been closed, during Covid-19, for more details, view the Rotherham United website.
Travelling to the New York Stadium
There is no parking for away supporters (unless you have a pre-agreed disabled parking space) at the ground itself, but there are options nearby.
Rotherham have identified two pay and display car parks – one on Sheffield Road and the other a town centre NCP – as the best for travelling supporters.
Forge Island car park – a large car park 0.4 miles from the ground - is also recommended. It will take around seven minutes to walk from here to the stadium.
Travelling by train
There are UK wide rail strikes planned for Saturday, July 30. It is recommended that supporters avoid using the train to travel to and from the New York Stadium.
More details about this can be found here.
Pubs for away fans
Rotherham town centre is a short walk from the stadium and has plenty of places to eat and drink. Rotherham United recommend The Bluecoat (a popular Wetherspoons located at The Crofts), but many of the pubs in the town centre welcome visiting supporters.
Rhinoceros (on Bridgegate) also welcomes away fans, while The Bridge Inn (closer to the train station) has proven popular with visiting supporters travelling to Rotherham.
