Anthony Wright | We've shown that we are capable of matching these teams
Head coach Anthony Wright expressed his pride in Swansea City Under-21s' performance on Friday evening despite defeat against Southampton in the Premier League Cup.
Southampto led at the break after Baylee Dipepa's strike in the 34th minute, before Romeo Akachukwu doubled their lead in the second half.
Aimar Govea pulled a goal back in stoppage time, but it wasn't enough to salvage a point for the Swans.
The Swans won their opening two games of the competition against Fleetwood Town and West Bromwich Albion respectively, and they currently sit second in Group C.
"I'm super proud of the players. We've played against a very good side in Southampton, but I thought we more than matched them tonight, and I thought we dominated the game," expressed Wright.
"Unfortunately, it's a big learning curve. We made two mistakes and were punished by them. I can't be critical of players, overall we were very good.
"From box to box, we dominated and we created a lot of chances in the game, and it was just one of those nights where we didn't put them away.
"That's not like us. We're pretty free-flowing with goals usually, and tonight and against Cardiff we haven't been able to put those chances away when they've come.
"It's not a concern because I know there's plenty of goals within this group. When you play these category one teams, you don't get those clear-cut chances that you would get in the category two programme.
"And we've shown over the last couple of games, especially in this cup competition that we're more than capable to play these types of teams."
