Swansea City Under-21s' coach Anthony Wright felt his side paid for a slow start after they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Charlton Athletic in the Professional Development League.

The hosts had the lead with just three minutes on the clock after Terry Taylor struck a fine shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

The Swans had some promising moments through Cameron Congreve, Ben Lloyd and Maliq Cadogan, but were unable to make them count. as they suffered a first league defeat of 2024.

But the fixture saw the likes of Kit Margetson, Iestyn Jones and Yori Griffith all make their debuts for the development side.

"I think what we’re most disappointed about is the start, we started slow and they took advantage and scored within three minutes," said Wright.

"We needed more intensity in most areas, and Charlton had a couple of first-team boys drop down and they provided that know-how for them.

"I thought we controlled the second half, there were a lot of good moments. We were much more aggressive and on the front foot.

"We had chances that we didn't take, but on a different day we would have.

"One major positive to take away is that we saw three players step up to this level for the first time, and I thought they all applied themselves well when they came on.

"The halfway point through the season always means we see players stepping up due to loans, and in our case we've got a few injuries.

"But that's what it's all, about and hopefully, we can keep giving these opportunities to these players."
