Anthony Wright | We need to bring our 'A' game
Swansea City Under-21s’ coach Anthony Wright wants the development side to bring their ‘A’ game as they seek to progress to the Nathaniel MG Cup Final this evening (7.45pm).
The Swans take on Cardiff Met under the lights at Landore in their semi-final tie.
The young Swans - competing in the competition for the first time - reached the last four thanks to a 6-0 victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel in October.
The Swans had eased through the previous rounds with wins over Carmarthen Town, Caerau Ely and their Cardiff City counterparts.
And Wright and his players are eager to face the challenge ahead of them.
"The players are in good spirits. They've had a little break over Christmas and they've been in in the last couple of days, so we're looking forward to the game," said Wright.
"As we've always said, there's a real competitive edge to this cup competition for us and it's a great learning experience for the players.
"I expect this to be a tough game. All of our games have been good from a learning perspective, but I think Cardiff Met will be a little bit more physical than what we've come up against.”
And Wright insists whatever the outcome may be on Wednesday evening, the experience has been beneficial for the players' development and learning.
"We can only second guess on how they're going to prepare, we'll prepare ourselves for every outcome and try to stamp our own authority on the game," he added.
"Development wise, up until now, it's been brilliant. It's a different environment, we've played on different pitches, 3G pitches and a game at Briton Ferry Llansawel.
"It's been a brilliant experience for the players, we've had a stadium game against Cardiff City where there were over 1,000 people watching, as there were against Briton Ferry, and all those moments are brilliant for the young players.
"The pressure that we've put on ourselves as a group and as players is to get to the cup final. We've already spoke of the importance of making sure that we perform.
"We'll do everything we always do and to the best of our ability. We'll prepare exactly the same as we always do.
"We'll give Cardiff Met the full respect, I know a couple of the players and there's some ex-academy players in there too.
"It's going to be a tough game, and we're going to need to bring our ‘A’ game to get over the line."
Entry is free for this fixture, and supporters are allowed on site from 6.45pm
