Anthony Wright | U18s must bounce back
Anthony Wright is targeting a positive response from his Swansea City Under-18s side when they host Queens Park Rangers on Saturday (11am).
The young Swans welcome the Rs to Landore for the second time this season, aiming to bounce back after marking their return to Professional Development League South action with back-to-back defeats.
After going down 2-1 against Cardiff last weekend, Wright’s youngsters were swept aside 5-0 by an inspired Sheffield United on Tuesday.
As for QPR, they descend on South Wales having collected just four points from 12 games this season, while losing each of their last six.
Wright, who oversaw a 2-1 victory when the sides met in the FA Youth Cup back in December, wants the under-18s to demonstrate positive character in the face of adversity.
And facing a team with a point to prove, he believes the contest will provide another good test of his players’ credentials.
“It’s another game for the boys to get more minutes under their belt for the season,” he said.
“As a coach, I’ll be looking for the team to bounce back from a disappointing day overall against Sheffield United.
“Even though we are disappointed, we want them to show character and perform to the levels that I know they can.
“We all want to win every game of football, but the most important thing is making sure that players are developing on their journeys.
“It’ll be another good test for the players. They’ll be a team that tries to get on the front foot and show lots of enthusiasm.
“But I’m looking for a more all-round performance for us – both in and out of possession.”
