Anthony Wright proud of growth and improvement from Under-21s
Coach Anthony Wright has revealed his pride in seeing how much Swansea City Under-21s grew over the course of the 2022-23 season.
The young Swans finished just one point short of the Professional Development League South play-offs, behind the top two of Bristol City and Millwall.
But they concluded their season in superb style with a magnificent all-round team performance that dismantled Birmingham City at the Swansea.com Stadium, registering a remarkable 10-1 win.
Overall, that made it nine wins from the final 12 games of the campaign, while they were the PDL's top scorers..
Although numerous individuals have made strides over the last nine months, Wright was delighted by the progression of the collective and the attitude his players showed to developing and learning.
"I think it's been a terrific season for everyone. From an individual perspective, I think everyone has grown this year," said Wright.
"From a team perspective, that growth has been visible week in, week out. They're still growing, and every game they just get better and better.
"For us, as a club and as team, the future is bright. We want to continue to bring players through the system as that's what the academy is about.
"We had four scholars start against Birmingham City, so we're still a really young team for an under-21 side.
"A lot of the boys still have a couple of years to grow, which is brilliant for us. Next year, when some of the under-18s make the step up, that cycle will just repeat.
"We want to keep pushing them, and get them as close to the first team as possible, and as quickly as possible.
"Several lads have had that opportunity this season, and we want to make sure those experiences become frequent, because their hard work will pay off in the long run."
