Anthony Wright praises response after Swansea City Under-21s secure three points
Coach Anthony Wright was pleased to see Swansea City Under-21s bounce back in style from last week's defeat against Queens Park Rangers with a 3-1 victory against the R's on the road on Tuesday evening.
After a goalless first half, Josh Pescatore struck within minutes of the restart, but the hosts were immediately level through Philip Sanyaolu's header from close range.
However, a two-goal salvo from Woodward - fresh off international duty with Wales Under-19s - got Swansea City back to winning ways as they bounced back from a 5-0 defeat to Rangers just last week.
"We did put things right from last week, winning the game 3-1," said Wright.
"I thought the game was identical to last week, I thought that we totally dominated the first half, and again, we should have been coming in three or four goals up at half-time.
"Credit to QPR, they defended their box well and their keeper made a few saves, but the amount of final third entries we had in the first half, we should have had more goals.
"We adjusted shape at half-time, we just wanted to create a few more overloads. We just wanted to isolate players and get our ball carriers on the ball to make sure we go past them going forward.
"We scored three goals, hit the crossbar twice and missed a few close chances. I'm really pleased with the performance, it was a difficult pitch. I'm pleased with how we kept the ball but we should still be scoring more goals.
"I was really happy with the response after their goal, we do need to cut out those errors we keep speaking to the players about but we quickly got back control of the game.
"In terms of the goals, Josh has scored worldie to give us the lead, and we know he has the ability to do that.
"We've got a player in Thomas Woodward who just scores goals and his overall game is improving week-in, week-out. He scored two goals again, and they were both brilliant finishes."
