Anthony Wright pleased with second-half response
Coach Anthony Wright was pleased with how Swansea City Under-21s responded to a difficult first half to go on and clinch a point against Brentford in the Professional Development League on Monday evening.
Former Swan Iwan Morgan made no mistake to open the scoring within the first two minutes of the game with a top-corner strike, then The Bees doubled their advantage before the break thanks to Kyreece Lisbie.
The Swans came out fighting in the second period with two quick-fire goals from Morgan Bates and Sammy Henia-Kamau.
Brentford regained the lead after substitute Caelan Avenall made an immediate impact off the bench. But the young Swans fought on and were able to salvage a point with Ben Lloyd's wonderful strike in the closing stages.
"If I'm being honest, I'm disappointed with the way we played in the first half. I thought that all over the pitch, we weren't quite us," said Wright.
"We had no intensity and we didn't step up the game when needed. From our defensive units, we didn't stay close together and as a midfield unit, they didn't get up to the ball enough.
"We've got a young group, we had six scholars involved and a couple away on international duty, so we know at times that there's going to be pain and it's a learning group.
"The response we had in the second-half was magnificent from each and every player, it was the total opposite to what we were in the first half.
"Those two goals were what we deserved at that time. And during that spell is when we stuck together. Sometimes, with their third goal, you've just got to say well played opposition.
"But they rolled their sleeves up and did the ugly things well, and Lloydy's [Ben Lloyd] finish absolutely top."
