Coach Anthony Wright was extremely pleased with Swansea City Under-21s'' "high level" showing at the Swansea.com Stadium as they picked up their third consecutive win in the Professional Development League with a 3-1 victory against Hull City.

The hosts, cheered on by a healthy Easter holiday crowd, made an excellent start and surged into the lead as Cameron Congreve and Ruben Davies netted in quick succession.

Hull pulled a goal back via an opportunistic finish from Josh Hinds, but their hopes of a fightback were ended by Azeem Abdulai’s smart finish in the closing stages as the Swans made it three wins from three when playing at the stadium this season.

“I’m pleased with the overall performance, I thought the boys started off the game so well, they were controlled both in and out of possession, and they played through their units," Wright said.

“We scored two fantastic goals in the first half. A quick combination from Azeem [Abdulai] and Cameron [Congreve], and then Cam slotted it away really well.

“Then Liam Smith gets in on the outside, isolates their left-back one-vs-one, gets the cross in and then it was a top-draw finish from Ruben [Davies].

“I was really pleased with the first 25 minutes of the game, we showed a real high level.

“At 2-0, Hull had nothing to lose so they came out more aggressively. On top of that, I don’t think we controlled the last 10 minutes of the first half as we would like to, so we addressed that at half-time."

A fifth win a six puts the Swans third in the Professional Development League South table entering the final month of the season, but Wright insists he's solely focused on the players' development and pathway to the first team, with victories being a bonus.

“We’ve never really looked at the results, honestly, it was only when the boys brought it up and told me where we were in the league that I became aware of it," added Wright.

“For us, the main objective is getting the players in the first team. But what we have done on the back of that conversation with the players is set some objectives.

“We’re a little bit greedy as coaches, I still think we could have scored a lot more goals than we have done with the chances we were creating.

“I think we do really well with the build up, and progressing through the thirds. It has always been about final third builds and we do that really well.

“Now, it’s about finishing off what we’ve been working on in the last 18 months, and it’s showing now within games.”
