Anthony Wright pleased with all-around performance in Caerau Ely win
Coach Anthony Wright was pleased by Swansea City Under-21s' display against Caerau Ely as they progressed to the Nathaniel MG Cup third round with a 3-1 victory.
The young Swans continued their debut campaign in the tournament with another win, after goals from Mitchell Bates, Kyrell Wilson and Iwan Morgan saw off their Cardiff-based opponents.
Wright acknowledged his players have aims to go on and with the competition, but maintains the experience they are gaining of playing senior football is the key factor when it comes to their development.
"I thought the boys showed a real good account of themselves. In fairness to Caerau Ely, they came out and tried to have a go at us," said Wright.
"Our boys just showed the quality and fight that they have, they moved the ball well and they looked a real threat in wide areas.
"Overall, I'm really pleased with the outcome. In respect to Caerau Ely, they gave us a test and our boys took everything they had thrown at them.
"They came out and they pressed us, which meant our boys had to move the ball quickly and cleverly to get out of their press, and that's what they did.
"There was a short spell in the game, after they scored, where we became a little bit sloppy with possession. Their goal gave them some life.
"We dealt with that period well as a team, we switched back on and finished the game really well.
"Obviously, we'd love to go on and win the whole thing, but at the same time it's about giving these young lads some competitive experience against Welsh league clubs."
