Coach Anthony Wright felt Swansea City Under-21s had paid the price for mistakes at key moments in their 2-1 defeat against Cardiff City in the Professional Development League.

Tanastwa Nyakuhwa scored for the hosts at the beginning of each half with a header and a low finish respectively.

Maliq Cadogan had netted an equaliser for the Swans after great work from Thomas Woodward set the striker up perfectly to fire home, but the visitors were unable to find a second leveller at Leckwith.

"I think as a team, the way that we set up caused them problems, we had enough opportunities in the game to score goals," said Wright.

"The two goals that we gave away, you don't really expect to see within the academy sides. As much as I'd like to protect the players, we have to let them know it wasn't good enough.

"I'm really disappointed with the outcome of the game. At half-time, I thought that we were the better side and we just needed to go and take the game by the scruff of the neck.

"I don't want to give any excuses, it's not an easy venue, it's a lot of stop-starts. We were certainly the team that was on the front foot.

"I said to them at half-time, we need to bring that momentum in the game. Then we started the second half, conceded within six minutes after creating some half chances and pinning them into their half.

"Their second goal was a good finish, and we did everything we said not to do in the build up, so it was disappointing to see."
