Anthony Wright | Missed chances cost us
Coach Anthony Wright and Swansea City Under-21s were left to rue missed chances as they suffered a 5-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
Former Swansea scholar Kieran Petrie netted a hat-trick for the visitors, whilst his R's teammate Emmerson Sutton also grabbed two goals within the space of seven minutes.
But the Swans were guilty of wasting a number of first-half chances, with Sam Parker and Sammy Henia-Kamau among those to be denied by QPR keeper Joel Halliday.
"It’s a very difficult game to summarise so I will use the words of one of their coaches after the game. 'In all my time involved in football I’ve not been a part of anything like that when you (Swansea City) should have been six or seven goals up at half time, we couldn’t get anywhere near you’,” said Wright.
"Now from our side, that was the case in the first half. It was total dominance and players have to start taking more responsibility with the chances being missed. The second half, goals change games and for QPR to score two quick goals completely ripped the heart out of the team.
"We stopped pressing, passing and completely froze, which is not good for this level of football. I will not make any excuses for the players, they need to take a long hard look at their personal performances and start to show improvements as individuals, whether that’s scoring goals or defending goals because the level hasn’t been good enough overall.
"But, as I said before we kicked a ball this season, there will be pain along the journey, with such a young group and us having 11 players not available to us from loans or being with the first team, it's always the bigger picture.
"Again, the result is not acceptable, we can only work even harder to get this right so we don’t see any repeat in the future."
