Anthony Wright | Loss a learning curve for the squad
Swansea City Under-21s' coach Anthony Wright urged the young Swans to learn the lessons of defeat at Fleetwood Town after letting a lead slip in their 3-1 Professional Development League loss.
Mitchell Bates opened the scoring with half-hour played with a low driven strike into the bottom corner and the Swans retained the lead at the break.
But the Fishermen produced a second-half comeback, with quickfire goals from Tommy Lonergan and Raff Cirino, before Owen Davenport made it 3-1 in the 72nd minute.
"It was a tough learning curve for the young lads against a much more experienced Fleetwood side, with five first-team players dropping in to play," said Wright.
"I thought we had real good moments in the first half in difficult blustery conditions. At times we passed the ball very well and created some good chances. Maybe we should have been a few up in the first half rather than the 1-0.
"That came from another well-worked goal off our press and a good transition movement with Mitchell Bates arriving at the edge of the box.
"The second half started with what I thought ws a poor decision for a penalty early on, I felt that affected a young team and the momentum certainly shifted.
"During these moments we need to learn how to stay in the game, with more defensive structure and certainty, and showing more personality with the ball.
"The second and third goals were preventable and something we need to do better at when defending as units all over the pitch.
"However, as I said last week, it’s a very young inexperienced team and we will all learn as a group and grow through the season from these experiences."
