Coach Anthony Wright was pleased with how Swansea City Under-21s stood up to the challenge after they claimed a 3-1 win against Charlton Athletic.

Sammy Henia-Kamau broke the deadlock with 23 minutes played after he finished well from Josh Pescatore's low cross at the Joma High Performance Centre.

Pescatore grabbed a goal of his own two minutes later from the spot after Morgan Bates was brought down in the box, although the Addicks netted a penalty of their own before half-time, which was converted by skipper Harvey Kedwell.

But Jersey-born Henia-Kamau completed his brace in the closing stages with a fine finish, assisted by Pescatore once more, to seal the win for the hosts.

The victory made it back-to-back wins for the young Swans, and Wright was extremely pleased with the side's performance, with a number of eligible players either out on loan or away on international duty.

"We're really pleased, it's the same as last week really. I've recently spoken about the number of players we haven't got, so it's given a number of players opportunities and I can't fault them," said Wright.

"They've had two tough games, against much more experienced teams. The players have done really well, I'm really pleased for them all.

"We controlled a lot of the game in the first half, they had a spell of around 10 minutes where they put us under pressure but through that spell we defended really well, and as a defensive unit today we were pleased with what we were seeing.

"We played some superb football at times, and we had many opportunities to score goals.

"This will give the boys confidence. We said to them before the game that, just like last week' we had a 'backs against the wall' mentality, and they were terrific.

"The group have stood up over the last two games, and have taken those opportunities well. For us as a club, we're really pleased with that, especially with the quality we have out on loan and on international duty; it shows we have great strength in depth."
