Swansea City Under-21s' coach Anthony Wright applauded his side's much-improved performance as they saw off Crewe Alexandra at the Swansea.com Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Sam Parker scored his first goal for the under-21s by netting the opener 20 minutes in, arriving at the far post to convert an excellent cross from Joel Cotterill.

Josh Ginnelly doubled the lead after the break with a composed finish, before turning provider to set up Mykola Kuharevich for a tap-in, while substitute Iwan Morgan added a fourth late on.

Nathan Robinson got a late consolation for the Railwaymen as they suffered defeat on their travels.

“I’m pleased overall with the performance. I thought we got better as the game went on," said Wright.

“We had a couple of the first team boys drop in today, which was great for our younger players to have some experienced players around them.

“We changed formation today; we’ve been playing 4-3-3 as of late but we played 3-5-2 today just to adjust to the first-team set up.

“It took us a little while to adjust to that out of possession but, overall, I’m really pleased with how we performed.

“Looking back on last week’s game (a defeat at Barnsley), I think we made some errors which led to goals, and that’s something we addressed before this game.

“We just needed to be more clear on our decision making, and to not put ourselves under unnecessary pressure, and I think we were much better at that."

The likes of Filip Lissah, Ben Hughes and Azeem Abdulai have all had the opportunity to work with Michael Duff's senior squad during pre-season, and Wright hopes this will continue to create a pathway for the youngsters.

“The manager has been brilliant about getting the boys training with them, and they’ve had a lot of game time as well, which has been great for them, and for us," added Wright.

“It’s definitely something they needed, to give them a little taste of what it’s all about. I think it’s something that is going to continue throughout the season."
