Andy Goldie appointed Swansea City’s academy manager
Swansea City is delighted to announce the appointment of Andy Goldie as the club’s new academy manager.
Goldie, 37, arrives with vast knowledge and experience in youth football, most recently with Dundee United where he was their academy director.
The Scot began coaching in the academy at Hamilton Academical in 2006 before a spell working with the junior teams at Dundee United.
He then progressed to the Scottish Football Association in 2012 where he spent the next seven years as elite performance coach – playing a key role in the development of Chelsea and Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour - before later returning to Tannadice Park to head up their academy operation.
He will formally start his new role on August 8.
“Andy is a really positive appointment for the club and is someone we feel can help the development of our players and staff within the academy,” said head of football operations, Josh Marsh.
“There were a number of strong candidates for the role in what was a thorough recruitment process, but Andy was the outstanding choice and we are delighted that he’s here.
“He has had great success in Scotland over many years, both within the national association set-up and at club football, and has a proven track record of improving players and staff.
“We are looking forward to working with Andy, while I’d also like to place on record our thanks and appreciation to Jon Grey who has been in the position since last September and carried out a great job. However, Jon expressed a desire to get back on the grass working with the players.”
Goldie’s appointment will now see Jon Grey – who took charge of the academy last September - sit alongside Anthony Wright in leading the club’s under-21 squad.
