All EFL fixtures postponed
The EFL have today confirmed that all fixtures have been postponed until Friday, April 3 with immediate effect.
It means Swansea City’s fixtures against Middlesbrough (a), Luton (h) and Millwall (a) will not go ahead. The Swans are due to face Sheffield Wednesday at the Liberty Stadium on April 4, although the EFL will review the matter prior to this date.
Following the postponements, we will update supporters who have tickets for forthcoming games with more information as soon as possible, and once we gain further clarification around potential rescheduled dates from the EFL.
The postponement period also applies to all Academy and youth-team fixtures.
Swansea City chairman, Trevor Birch, said: “The health and wellbeing of our staff, supporters, their families and the wider public will always remain of paramount importance to the football club.
“The decision to postpone fixtures was inevitable and totally understandable for what is an unprecedented and dynamically developing situation.
“We all hope we can get back to normal as soon as possible, but the priority at the moment is for everyone to follow the health advice available and stay safe.’’
As a result of the postponements and the reduced demand for certain services, the club is introducing internal measures to limit the current risk, and supporters are advised that the club shop and ticket office will be closed to the public until further notice from tomorrow.
The car boot sales that take place at the Liberty Stadium have also been cancelled until further notice.
Ticket office staff will be available via phone and email for any queries. The club shop will continue to operate its online retail service.
We apologise to supporters for any inconvenience and ask for patience in relation to any ticketing and general enquiries, but trust that everyone will understand that the safety of individuals is the main priority during these unprecedented times.
We will continue to update supporters on developments via our normal club channels and we thank you for your ongoing support.
A statement from the EFL read: “Having considered the increased number of cases affecting club players and staff, the Board were unanimous in their approach and it has been determined that all football activity scheduled to take place this weekend and until April 3, 2020 will be postponed.
“In addition to this the League instructs all clubs to suspend indefinitely all non-essential business which include, but are not limited to, player appearances, commercial activities training ground visits and fan meetings. We also advise that club community organisations cease their activities until April 3, 2020.
“While the EFL Board has continued to take the advice and guidance offered of the government and its health advisors, emerging developments mean now is the time to press pause and take stock to enable the EFL, together with our Premier League and FA colleagues, to implement our contingency plans, which have been in preparation for a period of time.”
