Alicia Powe | I'm proud of the character we showed
Swansea City Women’s defender Alicia Powe was proud of the fight her side showed to fightback and earn their place in the second round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.
The Swans had found themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes against Cardiff Met, Faith Mulenga putting the hosts ahead early on.
After a dominant second-half performance, the Swans levelled through Chloe Chivers, who fired into the bottom corner at the back post.
Then, with two minutes to go, the Swans got the winner as Chivers' free-kick turned into the net by Met defender Sophie Davidson to send them into the second round.
And Powe was proud of the character shown by her side, and is aiming for the team to go far in the competition.
“We did really well to come back from 1-0 down so early on, I’m proud of the team,” said Powe.
“It feels really good to come here and pick up a win, especially after our last performance here when we lost in the league
“We’ve bounced back well and picked up that win so it's onto the next round.
“I think we needed this performance, I think everyone dug deep and we came out on top, it just feels really good, the changing room is happy and we just move forward from here
“The way we fought back shows a lot about the characteristics and personalities that we have in the club, we will always cover each other’s backs and dig deep.
“We go into every game aiming for a win, that doesn’t change in the next round of the cup, anything less than a win isn’t good enough from our perspective.”
