Alan Sheehan says he can sense the growing confidence and belief in the Swansea City squad after they claimed a third win and clean sheet in the space of a week at Sunderland.

Captain Ben Cabango netted the only goal of the game at the Stadium of Light as the Swans climbed into the top half of the Championship table.

It was also a sixth clean sheet in nine games, during which time Swansea have put 17 points on the board.

And, after watching his side back up victories over Derby and Plymouth by beating a Sunderland team who are guaranteed a play-off place and who had lost just once at home in the league all season, caretaker head coach Sheehan could not hide his pride in the performance of his players.

“I am delighted that we have been able to come here and perform like that,” he said.

“It’s three wins and three clean sheets, so I suppose it does make it a perfect week.

“They have been three different performances if you go through them.

“We faced a team who will be in the play-offs and have the chance to be three games from playing in the Premier League, so I am incredibly proud of the players again.

“I think in the first 25 minutes, when it’s the third game of the week, you have to come out of the blocks quickly, and we had two or three chances where we could have been more clinical.

“After that they had more of the ball without creating loads, I felt we had control of the game with and without the ball.

“We scored at a decent time, and in the last 20 minutes I looked out there and saw some tired-looking bodies.

“We brought guys on to bring us some energy, and the resilience and character to defend the box like we did, and the celebrations following some of our blocks shows what it means to the players.

“They are a good bunch of lads, we believe in them and they are showing belief in themselves.”
