Alan Sheehan | We should have come away with a point
Alan Sheehan believes Swansea City would have merited a point against Watford, and felt a lack of composure and accuracy in the final third had proved the difference after they suffered a 1-0 defeat at Vicarage Road.
Hornets captain Moussa Sissoko scored the only goal of the game in Hertfordshire, sweeping the ball high into the net as the home side capitalised on the Swans losing the ball in their own half.
But that was one of only two shots on target for the hosts, with the other coming deep in second-half stoppage time, and the visitors had opportunities of their own.
Zan Vipotnik forced a sharp save from Egil Selvik in the Watford goal, while Liam Cullen arrowed a header just over the bar and Jisung Eom hit the side-netting from a Josh Tymon cross.
There were also other promising attacking positions Swansea did not manage to make the most of, and Sheehan admitted to it being a frustrated dressing room as they missed out on a point from an evenly-matched contest.
“I think there is some frustration for us, because over the course of the game we have had the better chances, albeit it was not a classic,” said the caretaker head coach.
“In the first half I felt we turned over the ball a few too many times centrally, obviously we gave them the opportunity to score a goal which is unlike our recent performances.
“In the second half we had a reaction, we had a good few half-chances and were the team with the impetus, and we were just lacking a small bit of quality to put the ball in the net.
“We just forced a few things where maybe we create some big chances if we get those passes right.
“That was all that was missing that would have allowed us to get out of here with a point. I don’t think either team did enough to win it, they had one shot on target until they had another right at the end when we were having to go a bit gung-ho.
“It’s a very disappointed dressing room, but the lads have put the effort in, I thought we were a little bit leggy after three games in a week but I cannot be critical of the players because they gave it everything.”
