Alan Sheehan | We got the reward for our intent
Alan Sheehan felt Swansea City got the reward for their positive intent as they beat Hull City thanks to Žan Vipotnik’s second-half penalty at the Swansea.com Stadium.
The Swans had much the better of the contest – having over 20 shots to Hull’s three – but in the end it was Vipotnik’s spot-kick, his seventh goal of the season, that settled matters.
It means Swansea have won four league games without conceding for the first time since March 2008, completing the feat in front of a bumper bank holiday crowd.
And caretaker head coach Sheehan was a happy man.
“I definitely think we deserved the win, there were massive aspects of that performance that were excellent,” he said.
“I think the tempo we played at was outstanding, and the only thing that was missing was a goal, and maybe a second one.
“There are things we can improve on in that aspect, but in terms of how we played it was incredibly pleasing.
“In the second half we understand that Hull are a team who are fighting for points to stay in the league, and that there will be a reaction.
“We scored at a good time, and then we went after a second.
“We could not get one, and it just meant that in that final 20 minutes or so we had to defend as a unit, as you do in a lot of Championship games sometimes, but I am incredibly happy and I thought that was incredibly well-deserved.
“Our intent was there, we were trying to attack. Sometimes we may have forced it a bit at moments, but I am not going to get onto the players about that because of what we are doing and the momentum we have got.
“That’s exactly what you want.”
Sheehan also thanked the home fans in a near 19,000 attendance who roared his side on their latest victory.
“You want that feeling of the place being full, and being able to feed off it,” he said.
“They are coming to watch a team that is doing well at the moment, and I hope they are all proud of the team because I certainly am.
“They are lovely moments we share with the fans when we win games, it’s becoming a wonderful habit.
“You want to pay them back for their support, and it’s something we talk about in the dressing room.
“They come to watch us, so let’s not send them home disappointed. If we keep doing this they will keep coming back. We are in a very good place.”
